Kwara state Commissioner of Police, Bashir Makama on Tuesday warned that anybody who is not qualified to be at the collation centres during the coming general elections in the state should not come near the centres.
Makama gave the warning during an election security meeting his command held with stakeholders which include leaders and candidates of political parties, community leaders and electoral officers in the state
The police boss noted that, at times, attempts are made to disrupt election at collation centres.
He assured that such attempts will be nipped in the bud during the polls in the state.
He said the collation centres and other strategic areas including the polling booths would be well fortified with security to ensure there is no disruption of the election.
Makama said the police would embark on specialised patrol during the election for the purpose of security of the electorate, electoral officers and election materials.
He urged the electorate to conduct themselves in good manner while also advising followers of political parties to avoid being used for violence by politicians.
The police boss asked the serving youth corps members who would be performing duties at the election not to allow themselves to be arm-twisted by politicians but discharge their duties diligently.
He cautioned political leaders against over stepping their bounds as he warned that unauthorised use of siren would not be allowed during the election.
Also speaking at the occasion, the state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Garba Madami, assured that the electoral body in the state would provide a level-playing ground for all the parties contesting at the poll.
Madami said the body would conduct a free and fair and transparent election “that the state will be proud of.”
