2019: Kashamu formally declares for Ogun guber, receives PDP flag

The Senator representing Ogun East at the National Assembly, Buruji Kashamu has formally threw his hat into the gubernatorial contest of Ogun state with the promise to take the state “to greater heights” if elected in the 2019 general elections.

He spoke on Monday at his hometown, Ijebu-Igbo, in Ijebu North Local Government, shortly after he was presented with the PDP governorship ceremonial flag alongside his running mate, Dr. Reuben Abati.

Daily Trust reports that this is coming barely three days after the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Uche Secondus, presented the party’s flag to Ladi Adebutu, also as the PDP governorship candidate in the state.

The duo had been at loggerheads over the party’s ticket, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had recognized Kashamu and other candidates’ list submitted by Bayo Dayo-led PDP in the state.

Speaking after receiving the flag, Kashamu said he remains the valid candidate, saying several courts have affirmed Dayo-led executive as the authentic party structure.

He equally presented Kashamu-Abati’s policy document titled “Taking Ogun State To Greater Heights”, just as he vowed to continue governance from where the outgoing governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, stops.

“If anyone decides to go and collect a flag in an office in Abuja, it does not bother us. They say they are the candidates of the party. We say we are the candidates of the people and the Rule of Law. As the Governorship Candidate of the PDP in Ogun state, I extend my hands of fellowship to all and sundry. I am ready, able and willing to work with everyone in the overall interest of our Party.

“My dear good people of Ogun State, I am your son, your servant and a true representative of the people. I am willing, ready and able to serve you. I urge you to elect me as your governor.  Mine will be a people-oriented government,” he said.

On his part, Abati said “Ogun is great already, but it can be greater if Kashamu is elected in 2019.”

While presenting the party’s flag, the state PDP Chairman said: “Let anybody say whatever they want to say, Prince Buruji Kashamu has been elected as the governorship candidate of the PDP. His name has already been submitted to the INEC.

“We have never had it so good since the days of Awolowo. Buruji is our own Awolowo. He is the only man that can wrestle power from the ruling party.”

Among party chieftains at the rally are serving PDP Senators, Sam Anyanwu (Imo East), Danjuma Lah (Kaduna South), Former PDP National Chairman, Shuaibu Oyedokun, former National Secretary, Prof Wale Oladipo and former Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Azeez Gbolarumi, among others.
