The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has notified the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on its decision to publish the list of candidates submitted by the Adebayo Dayo-led state executive committee of Ogun for the 2019 general elections.

The Dayo-led PDP, which has the backing of the senator representing Ogun East, Buruji Kashamu, has been at loggerhead with Sikirullahi Ogundele-led exco over the structure of the party in the state.

The National Working Committee (NWC) recognises Ogundele-led state excos.

The two groups had held parallel primaries and produced two candidates for each positions, a development which threw up the question of which list to be accepted by the electoral umpire.

However, the INEC in a letter with  reference number INEC/LEG/DR/197/I/514, dated October 25, 2018, and addressed to the national chairman of the party, Chief  Uche Secondus, said it had accepted list submitted by Kashamu’s group, saying it was in compliance with two judgements of the Federal High Court.

A copy of the letter signed by the commission’s Acting Secretary, Okechukwu Ndeche, which was obtained by our correspondent on Tuesday, indicated that the commission will now publish names of candidates submitted by the Kashamu’s group for all elective positions pursuant to court order until they are set aside.

The commission said “Consequently, the commission hereby notes the decision of the Federal High Court in the above referred cases and will publish the lists of candidates submitted by the Adebayo Dayo-led state executive committee of Ogun state pursuant to the orders of the Federal High Court until they are set aside”.
