Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun on Friday reiterated his commitment to President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election bid in 2019.

He also expressed confidence that his anointed successor, Adekunle Akinlade whose candidature remains a subject of controversy, would take over the reins of power in the state come 2019.

Both Akinlade and an Oil magnate, Dapo Abiodun have been laying claims to the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial ticket in the state.

While the National Working Committee (NWC) had ratified Abiodun’s candidature, Amosun has maintained his stand that Akinlade remains the official candidate.

The governor in a statement signed by the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Adedayo Adeneye, on Friday, said his candidate is set for victory ahead of 2019 elections.

The statement read: “For the avoidance of doubt, I remain committed to our great party, APC, and I stand with and for our leader, President Muhammadu Buhari. I am in no doubt that come 29 May, 2019, the Almighty God will make Mr. President triumph, and ensure that I hand over the reins of governance of our great state to the popular choice of majority of our people, Hon. Abdulkabir Adekunle Akinlade.

“I restate my unwavering commitment and total support for the mandate freely and expressly given to Hon. Abdulkabir Adekunle Akinlade.”
