The chances of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Emeka Ihedioha, in the 2019 governorship election in Imo State got a boost on Friday with an endorsement by the Imo State Advisory Council of Elders.
The elders, drawn from the three senatorial zones of the state, Okigwe, Owerri and Orlu, said that they were convinced about Ihedioha because he presented a manifesto that met the wishes and aspiration of the people of the state.
In a communique at the end of their meeting in Owerri on Friday, the elders said that the endorsement took cognizance of benefits of good governance, justice, equity and good conscience, especially in the rotation of elective political office, particularly that of the governor.
Amongst the signatories to the communiqué were a former military administrator of Delta state, Air Cdr Luke Ochiulor from Owerri zone, Engr. Charles Ugwu from Okigwe zone and Chime Nzeribe from Orlu zone.
The communiqué read: Whereas we are desirous and determined to work in synergy for the peace, stability, development and good governance of Imo State, the council has consulted, interviewed and evaluated candidates from the different registered political parties and their respective manifestos and has therefore, humbly and jointly resolved that the manifesto presented by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Rt. Hon. Chukwuemeka Nkem Ihedioha, in the opinion of the council satisfies the aspirations of Imo state.”
