2019 elections: We have crossed the Rubicon-Shettima

Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno State says he is elated with the massive turn out of voters for the elections in spite of threatening explosions, remarking: “We have crossed the Rubicon.”

He told newsmen after casting his vote that “I was filled with a great deal of exhilaration by the massive outpouring of voters to the polling centres.”

He said in 2015 about 16 local government areas cast their votes in IDP camps; but only two local governments – Kukawa and Abadam, are voting in camps right now.

“This shows that our people have decided to defy (the enemies),to come out and exercise their franchise; this portends great things to come to this nation,” he said.

“I heard that about three wards in the metropolis started voting late, but is expected; there could be hiccups somewhere along the line, but we are a developing democracy; however, it was gladdening to note that there have been no altercation among the party agents, the voters and election officials,” he noted.

“It is not yet Uhuru, but we are on the road to the promised land; we have crossed the Rubicon; this is a beautiful day for democracy and a great day for the nation,” Governor Shettima said.
