About 8,090 candidates have been matriculated for undergraduates studies in various academic disciplines for the 2018/2019 academic session in Bayero University Kano.

5840 of the candidates were admitted through Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), while 2250 others got admitted through Direct Entry.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Muhammad Yahuza Bello who gave the statistics on Thursday during the Matriculation ceremony, added that over 55, 600 candidates applied for the institution as their first choice through UMTE and thus charged the matriculants to consider themselves lucky and reciprocate the gesture by being law abiding.

The VC who was represented by his deputy in charge of administration, Professor Haruna Wakili described BUK as a universal community of scholars with presence of foreign nationals in its staff and students population.

He said “Bayero University takes pride in the national and international spread of its staff and students’ population. Each state of the federation including the FCT is represented in our staff and students’ population. We also have students from 12 countries from West, North and Central Africa and Asia. We also have staff members from other parts of the word, thus as a university, BUK is truly a universal community of scholars and academics,” the VC said.

He urged the students to maintain the existing standards of the institution and steer clear of cultism and exams malpractices, stressing that the university would not hesitate to sanction any student found wanting.

“I would like to restate that the BUK family is renown for its good character, thus the university is free of cultism and other social vices. Do not engage in activities such as examination misconduct and other forms of indiscipline. The management and senate take engagement in these vices very serious, violators are sanctioned appropriately,” he charged.
