The APC national leader, Bola Tinubu, national vice chairman south-west, Segun Oni and former Oyo State governor and leader of Accord Party (AP), Rasheed Ladoja, were the first set to meet the former PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) chairman.
Tinubu, who spoke shortly after the about an hour session, said they had come to discuss how to rescue Nigerians: “We cannot know it all, we need to consult. Equally, we take observation of his former boys who are running for presidency in our party, what can he say about them?”
“I have gone too far to tell you why we are here; I have been nice enough to tell you. I would not tell you what the discussion is about, but you are privileged to have heard why I am here, but the end discussion, I will not tell you,” the former governor of Lagos State said. “Your assumption will be yours, he is a card carrying member of PDP, so let it remain so.”
Tinubu, who equally berated the country at 54, said: “We are still an invalid baby in the incubator that is the truth. We are blessed with human capital, we have not developed it. Today we are been relegated from a high class of Oxford, Cambridge and other best universities in the world, we have been relegated to third class.”
The senate president, who arrived at about 2.00 pm while Tinubu and others were departing, also hinted that he had come to consult over 2015 as Obasanjo remains the father of the nation.
Mark, who had led other PDP stalwarts, including Delta State Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, stated that the visit was part of the reconciliation process in the party. “He (Obasanjo) raised some basic issues that affect both party and the nation. It is an important discussion that will move the nation forward. You know his passion for Nigeria is unequalled, you cannot just quantify it,” Uduaghan said. He stressed that the need to bring back, adding that: “Everybody who ought to be on board and you know the congresses are coming up and so I think this is normal.”
On his chance meeting with the APC delegation at Obasanjo’s residence, the senate president simply said: “Obasanjo is the father of the nation.”
