The Labour Party (LP) has asked Nigerians especially the voters to have faith in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other agencies concerned in the conduct of the 2015 General Elections.
National chairman of the party Alhaji Abdulkadir AbdulSalam said that it is only when the electorates conduct themselves during the processes that the agencies, including the security, would be able to discharge their responsibilities.
He however warned INEC and the security not to be biased in the discharge of their responsibilities in the interest of the country’s development.
“We cannot afford not to get it right in the (2015) elections, the success of which is the responsibility of all of us and just the INEC or some others alone. If all Nigerians, even those who might be ineligible to vote conduct themselves, it would be difficult if not impossible for trouble makers of unscrupulous people to have their way,” AbdulSalam said.
He also said the party’s stance denying endorsing President Goodluck Jonathan for the 2015 Presidency was to clear the air on the rumours that the party and another had endorsed the President when there was nothing like that.
He said: “There was no where the party said it is endorsing any candidate for the Presidency, decisions like that are taken collectively and we have not met at party level to make any of such decision.”
He said the party will have love to present a Presidential candidate, but is not doing that, to avoid presenting just anyone for the sake of mere contesting for the office of the President, when the party could have use the resources for such in other offices the party would be contesting for.
He therefore urge supporters of the party to ensure it consolidated its gains in the 2015 elections.
