2015: Civil society being induced to support Jonathan – Activists

AACID coordinator Declan Ihekaire told journalists in Lagos that his group had found out that a presidential aide is behind the inducement bid.
Ihekhaire said the aide had convened a meeting to perfect the plot, and that he (Ihekhaire) also attended the meeting as a participant so as to expose the shady plot.
“Surrounded by controversy to run for 2015, Mr President by proxy has engaged in lobbying and contracting NGOs and CSOs that have been asked to endorse him,” he said.
“However, one thing that is clear from our experience recently through an invite sent to CSOs and NGOs was that it is the President by proxy that has been begging for adoption and endorsement.
“At least, the organisations that honoured the invite were made to write an endorsement letter supporting Mr President for another term with a promise of monetary rewards which would be paid into the account details of each organisation that endorses him.”
The AACID coordinator said he walked out of the meeting having made up his mind that his oganisation will not endorse the President for a second term “considering the fact that he has failed Nigerians in all sectors of our existence.”
