The 2014 national conference was a waste, the co-secretary of the confab, Professor Is-shaq Oloyede, has said.
Professor Oloyede, a former Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, said the composition of members that participated in the conference did not provide adequate representation of the people in the country.
He said the confab was like a forum for some people to meet and enjoy the national cake, adding that some of the recommendations made were faulty, though some good decisions were also taken.
However, Professor Oloyede said there was need for proper restructuring of the federal system to reflect the yearnings of the component states.
The former V-C stated these at the weekend, shortly before a Ramadan breakfast dinner with journalists, at his residence, in Ilorin.
He noted that it was time to call for a restructuring of the Nigerian state, arguing that all other components were not functioning in the country.
Oloyede said the country was currently operating a unitary system of government, which, according to him, was not sustainable.
He pointed out that it was only the government at the centre that was functioning, adding that many states in the country were facing economic pressures and were no better that “a pseudo state.”
