2011: Why we insist on zoning -Gov Aliyu

Governor Aliyu also maintained that the choice of the state to support the presidential ambition of Babangida was based on an earlier agreement to allow the north have its own fair share of the presidency for the period of eight years.

“Why we are supporting IBB is because he is our son and since he is looking for the 2011 presidential ticket under the PDP we have no choice but to support him in his ambition.

“He has assured me that whatever the outcome of the primaries he is ready to accept, thereby dispelling any rumour that he is considering to decamp to another party,” he said.

Aliyu, however, cautioned yesterday in Minna at a PDP rally in support of his re-election that the move to support IBB was not to go against President Goodluck Jonathan, but insisting on an earlier agreement by the party on zoning.

He then submitted that whoever was the choice of God would eventually emerge winner, adding that no matter the pressure from other candidates of northern extraction from other parties, it should not tempt PDP supporters to vote for them as he maintained it was safer to vote whoever PDP presents as candidate.

Earlier, the Niger State PDP Chairman, Alhaji Mahmud Enegi, disclosed that due to the peculiarity of the state, they would abide by the earlier constitution of the party on zoning, irrespective of whatever the decision of the national body.

He maintained that zoning had, over the years, helped to create balance and political stability in Nigeria, adding that it wouldl continue to form the bases of voting in the state.

Enegi also used the opportunity to call on members of the party to continue to support the PDP as he called on those intending to decamp to resist attempts that would mislead them into the wrong camp.
