Waziri who received the National Steering Committee of the Anti-Corruption Revolution (ANCOR) established by EFCC yesterday said measures taken towards the elections would be proactive. “This year marks the beginning of general elections; we need to work with the masses of our people to let them know they have a responsibility to deny the corrupt a place of leadership at whatever level,” she said.

According to her, “mark my words; I made a promise to step on toes. I have been stepping on the toes of the corrupt but as we progress this year, we shall endeavour to crush not only their toes but their legs.” Meanwhile it appears the Commission intends to revisit some pending corruption cases like the National Identity Card, investigations concerning former governors, Transcorp Deals financing the third term agenda, Siemens and Wilbros cases and others.

Chairman of ANCOR Mashood Erubami who drew the attention of the EFCC to these cases stressed that they required “diligent public prosecution.” “Through delayed justice most of the big fishes being accused of corruption were allowed to make mistake and still correct such mistakes through further fraudulent means and long adjournment from courts to secure bail out,” Mashood said.
