200 women benefit from FG’s small scale business loan scheme in Nasarawa

A total of 200 women from Nasarawa State have been selected for the Federal Government’s loan scheme under the National Women Empowerment Fund (NAWEF) to cushion the effects of the economic downturn and provide them with resources to engage in productive small scale businesses.

The wife of the state governor, Hajiya Salamatu Al-Makura, made this known recently at the occasion of the training on Financial Literacy and Loan Management for the first batch beneficiaries of NAWEF in the state.

Represented by the Commissioner of Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Mary Enwongulu, Mrs Al-Makura urged the women to utilize the loan for the purpose it was meant in order to raise their standard of living.

The governor’s wife urged the beneficiaries to take the training with seriousness and to use the skills not only to manage the loan but also acquire basic financial expertise to run their investments.

“I am happy that women from Nasarawa State who have looked with hope and great expectations for this loan scheme to take off, will finally breathe a sigh of relief with the training for 200 women from 20 cooperative society groups shortlisted by the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Abuja,” she said.
