Two hundred women and youths from Langtang North and South are undergoing a two-week training in cassava and tomatoes production, processing and preservation facilitated by the member Representing Langtang North /Langtang South Federal Constituency, Beni Lar.
The training is being carried out by the Federal Institute of Industrial Research (FIIRO), a government agency under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology (FMST).
Speaking at the event’s flag-off in Langtang North, Lar, who was represented by her Senior Legislative aide, Nankpak Gono, said the training would enable youths and women in the area derive maximum benefits from processing cassava into various products.
“My constituency produces large quantity of cassava but experiences post harvest loss. This training will put an end to the loss as we will now know various ways to process cassava, which will increase their income as well as end post-harvest loss of cassava,” she said.
She expressed her determination to the reduction of poverty in her constituency adding that participants were selected from all the wards of the constituency devoid of party divide.
“Before now, what we know is only how to process cassava into garri but at the end of this training, they will be able to process cassava into several products such as fufu, cassava flour, starch, ethanol and other products in the cassava value chain,” she stated.
In his remarks, FIIRO North Central Zonal Coordinator, Philp Pius said FIIRO had deployed its mandate to ensure diversification of the economy most especially industrialization by the development and promotion of micro, small and medium enterprise.
