‘200 female doctors not enough for over 10m people in Kano’

The Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria (MWAN), Kano chapter, has there is a serious need for more female doctors to cater for the over 10 million people in the state.

This was disclosed by the founder of MWAN in Kano, Professor Hadiza Galadanchi, during the MWAN Annual General Meeting (AGM) and inauguration of Kano State’s first lady as grand patron of the association.

She said though the state had recorded an improvement in the number of female medical doctors from less than 20 in 2001 to over 200 in 2021, there was a need for more.

According to her, it is commendable that there are presently female doctors in virtually all specialists of medicine.

She however said there was still the need for more females to be in the medical profession, adding that effective girl child education was the best answer to achieving that.

Similarly, in her address MWAN state President, Dr Rahila Mukhtar, stated that the state chapter had conducted series of activities to improve women and children’s health in the state which included cancer screening for women, counselling of secondary school girls among others.
