Blue Sapphire Hub, a hub for developing human capital, has empowered 20 start-ups in Kano State.

Blue Sapphire Hub is the first female-owned innovation in Northern Nigeria

The start-ups were sponsored by National Information Development Technology Agency (NITDA) and their innovations were showcased on Saturday at the headquarters of the hub in Sharada, Kano State.

Speaking at the event, Blue Sapphire Hub founder, Maryam Lawal Gwadabe,  said that the intention was to showcase the products the youth have developed and get people to know about what they are doing.

She said, “We have provided them with partnership support, mentorship, and investment opportunities. That is the main purpose of the event.

“These youths have solutions that are solving community challenges and we are ready for investment.

According to Maryam, her vision and mission is to create an enabling environment for the northern youth to realize their potentialities and capacities and come up with innovative ideas and investable businesses.

Maryam Lawal Gwadabe stated that part of the vision of the hub is to provide their students win global competition.

She said, “So far, we have graduated about 20 people and they are all in the market now. Some have won global competitions.

“You have seen someone who is traveling to Morocco and is because of this competition. He came here without any idea and today, I’m glad to say that he is going to a global competition.

“I’m calling on the government to support these youthS that have come up with these innovative ideas.

One of the innovators Abdullahi Musa Maga commended Blue Sapphire Hub, saying it motivates youths.

He said, “This event is very inspiring because it tries to motivate tech enterprises so as to champion a course especially in providing a solution that will solve problems in our communities.

Imran Lawan, “I want to use this great opportunity to thank NITDA and the federal government for this opportunity.

“This programme is very important because We get job opportunities from it and we are capable of creating jobs for other people, too.

“I’m really grateful to Allah and Blue Sapphire Hub for training us. I also thank the Federal Government for this kind of opportunity.

Salamatu Ibrahim said, “I’m excited for this golden opportunity. I showcased to the world what I have invented myself.”
