Salma Hamisu, the mother of a two-year-old girl Hanifa, has appealed to government, philanthropists and well-meaning Nigerians for N6 million needed for liver transplant for the daughter.
A letter written by Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) stated that Hanifa Hamisu was the hospital patient suffering from biliary Atresia.
The letter, signed by Consultant Paediatrics Surgeon, Dr. Dung E. Dido,
explained that Hanifa needed a liver transplant in India.
Narrating the ordeal of the baby, her mother, Salma said that Hanifa had been suffering from the ailment about six months after her birth.
She said, “We went to the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital in Kano and Jos University Teaching Hospital and both hospitals suggested that our daughter should be taken to India for a liver transplant.”
She added that her husband was running a pharmacy, but as a result of their daughter’s illness he could not even take care of the family, let alone Hanifa’s liver transplant bill.
“We spent a lot of money and now we don’t have money to pay the bills of our daughter’s liver transplant. We hope the general public would help us,” she said.
