2 unemployed men docked for allegedly swindling trader of N11,000

Two unemployed men were on Monday docked in an Upper Area Court in Karu, Abuja for allegedly swindling a trader of N11,000.

The police charged Mohammed Abubakar, 48, and Thompson Ola, 42, of Karmajiji Village, Abuja, with joint acts and cheating.

The prosecution counsel, Ade Adeyanju.  told the court that sometime in September, the defendants walked into the complainant’s shop and collected three bottles of perfume worth N11,000 with a promise to transfer payment electronically.

The offence, he said, contravenes sections 79 and 322 of the Penal Code.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The judge, Hassan Mohammed, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N50,000 each, with one surety who must live within the court’s jurisdiction and whose addresses were verified by the court officer and police.

Mohammed ordered that the sureties’ national ID card or driver’s licence be kept in court.

He adjourned the case until Dec. 22 for further hearing. (NAN)
