The Ekiti State High Court in Ado-Ekiti has sentenced two men, Adekunle Osho (31) and Chinedu Ugwu (34), to death by hanging for armed robbery.
Justice Adekunle Adeleye, in his judgment, said the accused were actively involved in a robbery and linked to a stolen vehicle found at the scene of the crime.

Justice Adeleye said, “In the consideration of the above, the accused are guilty as charged and hereby sentenced to death by hanging.”
According to the charge sheet, the act was committed on November 14, 2014, at Oke Ila, Tinuola area, off Afao Road, Ado-Ekiti, where the condemned robbed one Chief Ojo Gbenga of his Toyota Camry car valued at N3,300,000 and the sum of N150,000.
The court noted that at the time of the robbery they were armed with guns contrary to Section 1(2) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provision) Act Cap R11, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.
According to the victim’s statement before the police, on the faithful day, he was on his way to his house and the robbers crossed his way, dragged him out of his car and shooting him in the leg before taking away the car and N150,000 cash.
The prosecutor, Gbemiga Adaramola, called three witnesses and tendered the tracked and recovered Toyota Camry, two native dresses and N84,700 cash.
The accused spoke through their counsel, Yinka Opaleke, but called no witness.
