2 suspects escape from police cell in Kogi

A suspected kidnapper and a vandal were reported to have escaped  from a police cell at Egume in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State on new year eve.

The two suspected notorious criminals were alleged to have conspired with others and disarmed the police in the station before they escaped.

Daily Trust on Sunday gathered that the suspected kidnapper  was recently transferred from a police cell in Lokoja to Egume police station where he was being detained for an alleged offence of kidnapping and killing of a person.

The second person whom Daily Trust learnt was a hardened criminal who specialises in vandalizing electricity installation.

He was said to have been arrested by a local vigilante group a few weeks ago and handed over to the police authority for further investigation.

The Divisional Police Officer, at Egume , DSP Sylvester Anigbogu declined to comment on the incident , saying he was not competent to speak.

All efforts to contact the state Police Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Williams Ayah over the issue last night were unsuccessful.
