A suspected armed robber and car thief have escaped from a correctional centre in Katsina.
One of the suspects, Abba Kala was accused of masterminding several robbery and car snatching operations in Katsina, Plateau and other neighbouring states.
Kala was said to have used his phone while in detention at the correctional facility in Katsina to organise a successful car-snatching operation.
The controller of correctional services in Katsina, Muhammad Abdulmumini Haruna, confirmed the incident.
He said escaping from the custody of security agencies was not something new.

“It is not something new for crime suspects to escape from the custody of security agents. We have seen that with the police and even the army who could shoot on the spot.
“It is true that two persons, who are awaiting trial, sneaked out of the correctional centre. I have informed our sister security agencies and even shared the information with motor parks, and fortunately, we have rearrested one while we are in pursuit of the other,” he said.
Many residents of Katsina wondered how the two suspects escaped from a well-secured place like a prison.
But the prison authorities assured that there was no cause for alarm as security agents were on the trail of the other suspect.
