Detectives of the Zone 2 Police Command, comprising Lagos and Ogun states, have intensified search for a leader of Aiye, a deadly cult gang in Lagos State whose members have allegedly been terrorising residents of Ikorodu and Epe areas of the state.
The police said the wanted leader, identified as Mukaila, alias Actor, had been on their wanted list for over 10 years for his alleged involvement in series of murders and robberies.
The zone’s Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police Hauwa Idris-Adamu, disclosed that detectives were able to arrest two of Mukaila’s gang members when they raided his hideout on Monday.
Idris-Adamu said Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, had called a meeting to address rising crime cases in the Ikorodu axis following the presidential order to lockdown Lagos, Ogun and the Federal Capital Territory. Criminal elements, she said, had taken advantage of the lockdown to rob members of the public.
“Based on this, the AIG ordered some tactical units of the zone to gather intelligence that could lead to the apprehension of the cult leaders and members terrorising the public, hence the information on Mukaila, a.k.a Actor, a suspected cult leader terrorising Maya, Itele, Igode and Adamo areas of Ikorodu, Lagos.
“A team of operatives attached to the Zonal Monitoring Unit stormed the hideout of the said Mukaila. There, one pump action gun, 55 live cartridges, one locally made axe and assorted charms were recovered, while two of his boys were arrested.
“Investigation is in progress and action is being expedited to arrest fleeing suspects,” the Zone PRO said.
