Gunmen shot and killed two police officers and a civilian in Akabo, Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State, on Tuesday morning.
Eyewitnesses reported that the attack occurred at a checkpoint in Ama-John Junction along the Owerri-Okigwe-Enugu road. The gunmen, driving a Sienna bus, took the officers by surprise and fled the scene after the attack.
“There was panic this morning, some minutes after 6:00 am, within Akabo (Ama-John) axis along Owerri-Okigwe-Enugu road as a group of gunmen killed two policemen on duty and a passerby,” an eyewitness said.
ASP Henry Okoye, the spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command, confirmed the incident. He stated that the Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, had deployed the Command’s Special Tactical Squad to work with other security agencies to track down the perpetrators.

Following the incident, DCP Aboki Danjuma and the Deputy Commissioner of Operations led police operatives to the scene for an on-the-spot assessment. Intense operations are ongoing in the area to apprehend the fleeing attackers.
