The burglary took place on the night of last Saturday, according to officials of the two government ministries, including the Executive Secretary of the Scholarship Board, Danladi Ondachi, in whose office the theft hit most; and the Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Abubakar Alhaji Mohammed, whose office was also affected.
The police are already investigating the theft, although the Nasarawa State Police command’s spokesman, Richard Akoji, said he has not been briefed because he was pre-occupied with activities at the NYSC camp in Keffi.
The government officials said the robbers stormed the government complex housing four ministries and headed for those of Education and Agriculture, where they carried out the act. The robbers also destroyed confidential documents during the incident, the officials added.
Ondachi told newsmen that the robbers tied up the security men on duty that night, injuring one in the process. He said the injured security man was still receiving treatment in a government hospital in Lafia.
On Thursday, staff members of the two ministries were seen discussing the episode, although in hush tones, with some of them alleging it was an inside job, although the police were yet to make that determination.
