Two men on Thursday appeared in a Chief Magistrates’ Court, in Gwagwalada in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), over alleged public nuisance charge.

The police charged Yusuf Abdullafeez and Bayero Musa with causing public nuisance.

The prosecution counsel, Dabo Yakubu, told the court that the defendants were arrested by the surveillance and ambush team of the Nigeria Police Force Gwagwalada Division in a joint operation with soldiers of the Nigeria Army.

Yakubu alleged that the defendants were arrested in black spots within Gwagwalada, where criminals usually gather before taking off to commit crimes.

He said that during the investigation the defendants could not give satisfactory accounts of themselves.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 183 of the Penal Code.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Magistrate Yusuf Ibrahim admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N50, 000 each with one reasonable surety each in like sum.

Ibrahim ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

He said that both the defendants and sureties must present their means of identification.

The magistrate also ordered that the sureties should undertake to supervise the defendants and ensure they are of good conduct

He said that the defendants must also undertake to be good citizens from henceforth.

Ibrahim adjourned the case till Sept.7 for hearing. (NAN)
