The police in Kano State have arraigned two men, Abubakar Abubakar (20) and Abubakar Abdullah (25), before a Shariah court for stealing cigarettes valued at N55,000 from a shop.
The defendants, who reside in Hausawa Quarters, Kano are facing a four-count of criminal conspiracy, shop breaking, theft and being in possession of hard drugs.

The prosecutor, Insp Abdul Wada, told the court that one Lawan Abdulkadir of No 56, Galadanchi Quarters, Kano, reported the matter at the Gwale Police Division on March 25, that on the same date at about 4pm, the defendants conspired and broke into his shop and stole packets of cigarettes, as well as cash.
The prosecutor told the court that when the defendants were arrested, an iron pipe, tablets of diazepam, one bottle of an intoxicant and N13,500 cash were recovered from them.
The judge, Dr Bello Khalid, ordered the remand of the defendants in a correctional centre and adjourned the case to April 20.
