2 killed, houses, shops burnt in Plateau crisis

Two persons were reportedly killed on Sunday evening in Mangu town of Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State when a crisis ensued between a Fulani herder and a Muwaghagvul man in the area.

Residents said houses, shops and vehicles were equally destroyed and burnt in the area.

An official of Nigeria Red Cross Society who also confirmed the incident told Daily Trust that there had been serious tension in the area following the death of the two persons.

Police and Operation Safe Haven, a multi-security taskforce maintaining peace in the state are yet to respond to the incident.

There have been reports of ethnic intolerance between Fulani and Muwaghagvul communities since the crisis that ensued between them in May where attacks and counter attacks were recorded in the area.
