Two children have suffocated to death inside an abandoned vehicle in Kuje area of Abuja.

They have been identified as Ahmed, 8 and Mohammed, 4.

A resident of the area, Yakubu Usman, said the incident happened on Friday afternoon after the two children were declared missing in the area.

The two children went to play inside an abandoned vehicle on the premises of the palace of the Gomo of Kuje, Harua Tanko Jibrin.

The boys’ father is a palace staff.

The mother of the boys raised an alarm when she could not find them.

Palace guards and other staff joined a search for the two children.

“It was while searching for them since around 2 pm thinking that they were missing, until at about 7: pm when the boys were later found dead inside one of the abandoned vehicle within the palace,” he said.

He said the deceased children were immediately rushed to a hospital where doctors confirmed them dead.

Their remains have been buried according to Islamic rites.

The secretary of the Gomo of Kuje, Usman Mohammed Bako, confirmed the incident.

He said the two deceased children, were playing within the palace premise after the Juma’at prayers, when they got missing and their bodies were found inside an abandoned vehicle around 7pm.

Daily trust learnt that sympathisers, including top politicians have been trouping the palace to condole with the Gomo of Kuje, Alhaji Haruna Tanko Jirbrin, over the death of the two kids.
