A Kano State High Court has sentenced two men, Usman Labaran and Ibrahim Khalil, also known as Kiyaya, to 15 years in prison each for kidnapping a four-year-old boy, Faruq Aminu, in Kumbotso LGA.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Wada A. Wada, told the court that after kidnapping the boy, they kept him in their custody for more than a week and demanded a ransom of N1m from his parents.
He said when the ransom was not paid, they took the boy to Huguluwa village in Bichi LGA of the state and threw him into an old well, noting that their actions contravened Sections 97 and 271 of the Penal Code.
Wada presented six witnesses, including the victim who identified the defendants as the people that kidnapped him at Sheka Quarters in Kumbotso.

After pleading not guilty, the defendants’ counsel, Barrister A.B. Kura, called two witnesses and closed their case.
Justice Nura Sagir Umar held that the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt and said the defendants guilty of criminal conspiracy and kidnapping as charged.
He sentenced them to five years each for conspiracy and 10 years each for kidnapping.
But after a plea of by Barrister Kura, the court reduced the 10 years for kidnapping to seven and half years, but affirmed that the five years for conspiracy stood.
