A vigilante and a civilian reportedly sustained gunshot injuries when attempts to abduct travelers at Ukya -Tsoho, which borders FCT and Nasarawa State were foiled by a vigilante group in the area.
A member of the vigilantes, who was part of the operation but preferred anonymity, said the incident happened last Thursday around 6:23 pm at a sharp bend in the area.
He said the kidnappers, wielding sophisticated weapons, came from the bush and attempted to flag down a vehicle conveying passengers from Abaji to Toto in Nasarawa State.
He said in the process, some vigilantes, who were at a checkpoint at the sharp bend near Ukya -Tsoho village engaged them in a shootout, which, he said, led to one of the vigilantes and a civilian sustaining gunshot injury.
He said the kidnappers immediately retreated and escaped into the bush.
He said, ‘’The kidnappers emerged from the bush upon sighting the vehicle, but as God would have it, the vigilantes at the checkpoint engaged them and foiled the abduction, even though one of the vigilantes and a civilian sustained gunshot wound.”
According to him, the injured vigilante and the civilian were taken to a hospital.
The spokesman for the Nasarawa State Police Command, ASP Rahman Nansel, could not be reached for comments on the incident.
