The police in Kano State have arrested two men, Yahaya Adamu and Nasiru Haruna, for allegedly adulterating fertiliser, Daily Trust has learnt.

Adamu of RinJin Yadi village in Kabo Local Government Area and Haruna from Barbaji village in Rogo Local Government Area were arrested at No. 129, Murtala Mohammed Way, Gashash House, while adulterating fertiliser products.

Parading the suspects before newsmen, Kano PPRO, DSP Magaji Musa Majia, said, the suspects were found mixing the components of fertiliser with a large quantity of sand (Lamso) to make adulterated fertiliser.

“They were packaging the adulterated product inside genuine fertiliser bags produced by the Federal Government of Nigeria in conjunction with the Kano State Government owned fertiliser company, KASCO,” he said.

Majia said while the Federal Government sold a bag of the product at N5, 500, the suspects sold theirs to unsuspecting farmers between N6, 500 and N7, 000 per bag.

He said the suspects, who had already confessed to the crime, would be charged to court as soon as police finished investigation.
