A magistrates’ court in Gwagwalada Area Council of the FCT has sentenced two herders, Buba Bello (30) and Abubakar Umar (26), to five years with hard labour in prison each for stealing 14 cows worth N2.5 million.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Abdullahi Tanko, told the court that on January 21, the defendants and Umar (at large) conspired, trespassed into one Muhamodu Bello’s cattle farm and stole 14 cows worth N2.5m.

He said that the convicts later called and demanded N250,000 from Bello before they would release the cattle back to him.
He said that Bello sent N150,000 to the defendants through a Point of Sale (POS) account number which they sent to him following which they released 11 cows and sold the remaining three valued for N1.1m for N250,000.
The prosecutor noted that the offences contravened Sections 97, 287, 292, 342 and 397of the Penal Code. (NAN)
