2 held for stealing power cables in Ogun

The police in Ogun State have arrested two for vandalising and stealing Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) cables in Ijebu-Ode.

The suspects, Odogwu Wisdom and Akorede Aregbe, were arrested following a distress call received by the DPO of Igbeba Division.

The police spokesman in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said a vigilante at Olisa area of Ijebu-Ode hinted that vandals were carrying out their activities at an IBEDC transformer in the area.

He said during interrogation, Odogwu Wisdom confessed that he and his gang specialised in stealing electric cables.

Oyeyemi said large quantities of cable suspected to have been stolen from IBEDC installations, as well as tools they used for the illicit trade, were recovered from the suspects.
