The police in Ekiti State have arraigned two suspects, Mohammed Adekunle, 26, and Rabiu Ibrahim, 30, over alleged theft at the magistrates’ court sitting in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Sodiq Adeniyi, told the court yesterday that the defendants and others at large on December 13, 2023, at about 9am at Ado-Ekiti, conspired to steal.

Inspector Adeniyi said Mohammed Adekunle, and others at large, conspired to steal children wears and shoes, adult jeans, shirts and trousers, two gas cylinders, jewelry, N200,000 cash, with a total value of the property belonging to Adeyemi Bedemi put at N324,000.

The prosecutor added that Rabiu Ibrahim received stolen children’s wears and shoes, adult jeans, shirts and trousers, two gas cylinders, and jewelry from Mohammed Adekunle.

Inspector Adeniyi noted that the offence committed is punishable under Section 421, 302(1)(a), 343 (1), of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State 2021.

Counsel to the defendants, Barr. T. E. Omotoso, urged the court to grant bail to his clients in liberal terms, saying they would not jump bail.

The magistrate, Dolapo Babalogbon, granted bail of N100,000 with two sureties each and adjourned the case till January 25, for hearing.
