2 die in Kano fire outbreak

Two children have died following an early morning fire outbreak in a two-bedroom house at Sharada, Ja’en Yamma, in Kano metropolis on Monday.

The spokesman of the State Fire Service, Alhaji Saidu Mohammed Ibrahim, who confirmed the incident, told our reporter that the remains of the two victims, aged seven and four, were discovered after the inferno was contained.

“We received a distress call in the early hours of Monday morning from one Malam Bello Tukur at about 2:09 a.m that there was a fire outbreak at Ja’en, and immediately we mobilized our resources and personnel to the scene at about 2:15 a.m to bring the fire under control which we luckily did but after the fire had been put off we discovered in the debris the remains of the two kids.”

Mohammed said the parents of the children had run out of the house in search for help from neighbours when the fire started, but efforts made to retrieve the children was not successful.

He said the firemen later handed over the corpses of the two children to the police adding that investigation was going on to ascertain the cause of the incident.
