2 die, 1 hospitalised after taking local herbs in Ondo

The police in Ondo State have launched investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shocking death of two persons in Ipe Akoko in Akoko South East LGA of the state after drinking a local herb (concoction).

City & Crime gathered that the duo; Alex Ojulewa and Samuel Alonge, died mysteriously on Sunday after taking turns to drink the concoction.

A witness, who pleaded not to be mentioned, revealed that the two men had come to attend a festival, known as “Ibogbe” (age group) in the local community when the incident occurred.

“Sadly, one of the deceased came from Abuja for the age group (Ibogbe) festival and he drank out of the local herbs (concoction). The three of them were involved but two died while the other person is currently in the hospital,” he said.

The incident, it was further learnt, had thrown the entire people of the local community into a pensive mood.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), in the state, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, said the case was reported at the Isua police station.

She explained that the duo of Ojulewa and Alonge drank from a “native concoction” which was prepared by an indigene of the town during the festival.

“They drank the concoction and thereafter started vomiting. While on their way to the hospital, the duo of Alex Ojulewa and Samuel Alonge, gave up the ghost while Adu Johnson was in a coma receiving medical treatment.” Mrs Odunlami-Omisanya said.

The police image-maker, however, said investigation on the incident was on-going.
