2 dead, 8 rescued as building collapse in Kano

A one-story building located at Gwammaja Yan Kosai in Dala Local Government Area of Kano State has caved in, killing 2 persons and injuring 8 others in the early hours of Tuesday, Daily Trust reports.

The deceased are Abdullahi Anas, 4 years, and Abdulmalik Anas, 6 years.

Eyewitnesses say the incidence occurred a little past midnight when it was raining heavily in the area.

All the victims are members of tBhe same family.

Confirming the incidence, the Spokesman for the state fire service, Saidu Muhammad said “We received a distress call from Gwammaja ‘Yan Kosai Dala Local Government at 01:30 am through Malam Abdullahi Muhammad.

“Our rescue team with appliances arrived the scene at 01:37 am and discovered it was a one-storey building house that collapsed with ten occupants covered by broken blocks and sand.

“Eight persons were rescued alive with some injuries by names Zainab Muhammad of 60 years, Halifa Anas of 22 years, Muhammad Anas of 5 years, Maimuna Anas of 9 years, Faruk Anas of 10 years, Mujahedin Anas of 4 years, Muftahu Anas of 14 years, and Humaira Anas of 7 years.

“Both the unconscious and those moving were later rushed to Murtala Muhammad Hospital where the two were confirmed dead.”

In a related development, another man, Saminu Suleiman, died while swimming in a pond at Zango Buhari area of Bunkure Local Government Area.

“We received a distress call from Zango Buhari Bunkure Local Government at 06.30 hours through Malam Muhammad Mai Anguwa.

“When we got there, we discovered that the victim died while swimming and already handed the corpse to the Ward Head of Zangon Buhari by name Alh. Yahaya Usman for burial,” the fire service spokesman said.
