Two persons have been confirmed dead; while four others rescued in another boat mishap which occurred around 7pm on Monday along the Offin Ibeshe-Ikorodu waterways, Lagos
As of the time of filing this report, rescuers were still searching for the body of one person.
About a month ago, 12 persons reportedly perished in a commercial boat in Badagry.
Monday’s mishap involved a fishing boat that took off from Makoko community in Yaba and was heading towards Ikorodu with seven persons on-board when it capitalized.
General Manager, Lagos State Waterways Authority, Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, in a statement, said the wooden outboard engine fishing boat was from Makoko Community with seven passengers onboard.
Oluwadamilola said the passengers comprised five adults, including the boat captain and two toddlers.
He said the boat capsized into the Lagos lagoon while heading to Offin area in Ikorodu.
He said inquires revealed that the incident was caused by the rough water current usually recorded around the area.
He said men of the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority and Marine Police had been contacted to support the ongoing search operation for the remaining victim while further investigation was ongoing.
