2 co-wives remanded for beating another over witchcraft

A Kano Shari’a Court sitting in Kurna Asabe of Dala LGA has remanded two co-wives, Fatima Muhammad and Sabuwa Auwalu for allegedly beating up another co-wife, Bilkisu Sani, after accusing her of witchcraft.

They were charged along three others; Abubakar Auwalu, Hassan Auwalu and Rahma Auwal with conspiracy to commit crime, trespass, use of excessive power and intimidation.

The male accused persons pleaded guilty and were given 20 strokes of cane and a fine of N40,000 each, and to attend Islamiyya school for six months to get Islamic knowledge.

The co-wives admitted to some and denied other charges.

City & Crime learnt that disagreement between the first two wives was said to have followed the decision by their husband to marry Bilkisu, a widow in their neighbourhood and they allegedly conspired to deal with her.

The Khadi, Shamsuddeen Ado Abdullah Unguwar Gini, ordered their remand at a Correctional Centre till August 23 for hearing.
