An overnight inferno which gutted a bungalow building in Lagos on Saturday night claimed the lives of two kids, it was learnt yesterday.

The incident happened at number 2 Bola Oyewo Street Ifako Ijaiye around 9 p.m when the bungalow was engulfed in fire consuming two kids of the same parents in one of the rooms.

It was gathered that the mother of the two male children aged between two and four left a candle stick on through which the fire started.

The names of the two deceased brothers were Olawale and Desire Akingbesote.

The swift intervention of officers and men of the state fire service saved the fire from extending to other rooms in the bungalow, according to sources.

It was gathered that when the fire officials got to the venue, one of the children was found behind the door already burnt.

Director of the Fire Service, Alhaji Razak Fadipe confirmed the incident to Daily Trust, saying the mother of the children went out leaving them inside.

He advised against the use of candle stick to illuminate the house, saying, “Candle has sent a lot of people into early graves”.

Fadipe also urged community leaders and philanthropic individuals who are organizing empowerment programmes to include torchlight and rechargeable lamp into empowerment items to discourage the use of candles.
