Four abducted farmers have been rescued after a fierce gun battle, which led to the death of a vigilante member and two bandits at Arikon village in Kachia LGA of Kaduna State.
City & Crime had reported that four farmers, including a woman, were reportedly abducted at a farm by bandits last Tuesday, at Arikon village in the area.
Confirming the incident, a community leader from the area, said the victims were rescued on Friday, at a forest around Hayin -Dam, which borders Janjala, in Kagarko LGA of the state.
He said some vigilantes led the troops to the bandits’ hideout, which he said resulted in an exchange of fire with the bandits and one of the vigilantes died in the process.

A security source, who preferred anonymity, said two among the bandits were neutralised.
He said, “But the vigilante man died as a result of excess loss of blood while being conveyed to the hospital in Katari because the forest where the incident happened is far from the town.”
He said some of the bandits escaped with bullet injuries, listing items recovered from them to include foodstuffs, sleeping mats and cartons of cough syrup.
The spokesman for the Kaduna State Police Command, ASP Hassan Mansur, could not be reached for comment on the incident.
