2 arrested for stealing manhole covers in Lagos

Detectives from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested two men for allegedly stealing iron drainage covers.

It would be recalled that a suspect was arrested last month while removing iron drainage covers on the Third Mainland Bridge.

On Tuesday morning, two men, Jubreel Haruna (29) and Adewale Rabiu (27), were arrested on Freedom Street in the Ikate area while stealing fabricated metal drainage covers.

The suspects were allegedly loading the drainage covers into a mini bus, popularly called “korope”, when they were accosted by the policemen.

Lagos State police spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the arrest, said, “Recovered from the suspects are iron drainage covers which they had already removed and were at the verge of removing more when they were arrested.”
