Police in Anambra State have arrested two notorious armed robbery suspects terrorising the state and environs.

The two suspects are Chiboy Ezike from Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area of the state, and Chiemere Ajuluchukwu, Awada area, Onitsha Local Government Area.

The suspects were arrested on Saturday, about 5:30 pm, when the police received a distress call that some armed robbers were operating along the Nkpor/Obosi axis in Onitsha.

After receiving the call, police operatives attached to the Command Special Anti-cult unit in conjunction with Scorpion vigilante group, Obosi, quickly moved to the scene and apprehended them.

According to the spokesman of Anambra State Police Command, CSP Haruna Mohammed, the suspects on sighting the police, opened fire but the police overpowered them and arrested the two suspects at their hideout with gunshot injuries.

Mohammed said the suspects have confessed to being members of a secret cult group called “Supreme Vikings Confraternity.”

He also disclosed that some of the exhibits recovered in their possessions include two locally made pistols and 10 live cartridges.

He further stated that the suspects were taken to the hospital for treatment after which they will be charged to court for prosecution.

The command spokesman said that the state Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Bala Kuryas, has commended Anambra residents for their cooperation and urged them to sustain the tempo by assisting the command with actionable intelligence reports in order to discover authors of crime in the state.

According to him, the CP had also reassured the public that the command under his watch would continue to protect the lives and properties of all the citizens in accordance with internationally acceptable best practices.
