The new Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Benue State, Professor Samuel Egwu, has said that 2,782,302 registered voters are expected to participate in the 2023 elections across the 23 local government areas of the state.
Addressing newsmen in Makurdi, Egwu said, “Benue State is expected to account for 2,782,302 of the estimated total of 93.5 million registered voters following the registration of another 12.29 million Nigerians in the course of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) which has ended.
“In Benue State, the 2023 elections will be held across the 23 local government areas in 276 registration areas at 5,102 polling units involving an estimated 2,782,302 registered voters.
“The final figure of registered voters will be determined by the final cleanup of the register using the Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS) which has already aided in purging the register of 2.78 million from double/multiple registration, underage persons and outright fake registration.”
He added that, “Without disaggregating registered voters in Benue in terms of age, we are aware of the implication of 71 per cent of the demographics constituted by the youth population of between 18 and 34 years of age.”
