A total of 2,092 delegates are to elect candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday, ahead of the Ekiti State governorship election.
PDP National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, said in a chat with newsmen in Abuja on Monday that 1,585 were statutory delegates; 491 were ad-hoc committee while 16 were national delegates.
The delegates are to elect one of the three governorship aspirants – Deputy Governor, Kolapo Ishola who is Governor Ayo Fayose’s anointed; Senator Abiodun Olujimi (Ekiti South Senatorial District) and a former Minister of State for Works, Prince Dayo Adeyeye.
The PDP spokesman said that all the aspirants had agreed to support whoever wins the primary election in order for PDP to retain the state.
“We cannot have the All Progressives Congress (APC) experience because we don’t have 33 desperate aspirants. We have three aspirants and they have resolved to work together in the interest of the party,” he said.
The Electoral Committee of the primary election is headed by Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa while the Appeal Committee is chaired by the party’s national chairman, Prince Uche Secondus with the entire National Working Committee (NWC) as members.
