$1bn looted funds recovered by Buhari gov’t spent on poverty alleviation, others – FG

The federal government on Wednesday said the sum of $1billion had been recovered since the inception of the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari till date.

The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, stated this while briefing State House reporters after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by the President at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The minister said the recovered assets had been deployed to various sectors of the economy including poverty alleviation.

He also said that FEC had approved a new Anti-corruption Strategy Document to strengthen anti-graft fight in the country.

Malami, who expressed government’s concern over cases of budget padding, described the development as worrisome.
He said every necessary measure would be explored to address it.
