No fewer than 195 female students of the Yobe State University, Damaturu, lost their property in a recent fire in the institution.
The Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the university, Professor Mala Muhammad Daura, who disclosed this while briefing newsmen on the fire incident that razed down a female hostel, said out of the 195 students, five of them who were asthmatic and inhaled the smoke, were rushed to the hospital.

He explained that a cooking gas cylinder explosion might have caused the fire, adding that all the students were safely evacuated from the building.
Professor Daura said the university had settled the displaced students to a decent accommodation within the institution to continue their studies, adding that the management of the university had set up a committee to ascertain the cause of the fire.
