19 killed in Kaduna-Abuja, Kwara road crashes

Nineteen people have died in separate road accidents along the Kaduna-Abuja highway and at Otte town, close to Ilorin International Airport road along Ilorin-Ogbomoso highway.

The Kaduna State Government on Sunday said that 15 people were killed in road traffic accidents along the Kaduna-Abuja highway in the last three days.

It said the accidents occurred due to speed limit violation and driving against traffic, among others.

The state Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, said the latest accident, which occurred early Sunday morning around Greenfield University in Chikun LGA, claimed seven lives with five injured, while two lives were lost on Saturday morning in a crash around Olam Farms.

He said that four other persons had died in another accident on Thursday close to the NYSC camp while another, which occurred on Wednesday, claimed two lives.

In the Kwara accident four persons were said to have died in an auto crash that happened in on Sunday afternoon.

The accident occurred at Otte town, close to Ilorin International Airport road along Ilorin-Ogbomoso highway.

It was a collision involving a commercial Toyota Hummer bus with registration number FFA717YR and a truck.

It was gathered that the accident, caused by excessive speed and dangerous driving, caused the bus to burst into flames.

It was gathered that the four dead passengers were two males and two females, while no item was recovered at the scene.

Kwara Sector Commander, FRSC, Jonathan Owoade, confirmed the incident.
