18 persons arrested for violating sanitation laws

Eighteeen people have been apprehended and charged to court for allegedly violating environmental sanitation laws in Lafia, Nasarawa State.

Parading the suspects on Saturday shortly after the exercise, the chief environmentalist, who is also the prosecutor, Mr. Abubakar Mohammed, informed the court that the suspects were arrested because they neglected the sanitation exercise and were going about their businesses in the state.

According to him, the offences violated Section 9 (2) of the Environmental Sanitation Law of the state.

Mohammed added that the court had no option than to sanction them accordingly to serve as a deterrent to offenders across the state.

Meanwhile, Mr. Ibrahim Musa, the Nasarawa State Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, has said the state would soon turn its waste materials to wealth as plans were underway to recycle all the waste materials for sale.

According to him, the federal government under the ecological office has provided a recycling plan and the work has reached advance stage.
